So, who the heck is NEC?

| NEC is not an acronym
or an abbreviation. You can call it "neck" if you want to, but
it's really "enny see."On the other hand, the name of this website is "neck neck dot com."
|
NEC was originally known as
Nippon Electric
Company, and was
established in Japan in 1899 as a joint venture with Western Electric Company, the manufacturing
arm of AT&T. "Nippon" is a Japanese word for "Japan;" and just as Western Electric was the main supplier to AT&T, Nippon Electric was the main supplier to NT&T, the Japanese national phone company.
NEC employs more than 150,000 people worldwide, and has annual sales of more than $40 billion. The company produces a wide range of products, and has been a major supplier of business phone
systems in the US since the 1980s. |

...and what about
Nitsuko?
Nitsuko Corporation started making phone equipment in 1918, and has 3000 employees and sales approaching $1 billion.
Nitsuko was a pioneer in the phone system business in the US, making "TIE" brand products that competed with AT&T starting in the 1970s. Nitsuko replaced TIE as US distributor of Nitsuko
phone systems in 1991.
In 2000, NEC and Nitsuko formed a new company called NEC Infrontia, consolidating Nitsuko Corporation and NEC’s Key Telephone Group.
